Potty Training...

I had a week off of work so I thought I'd let Lucy try out some training pants. Turns out that I don't think Lucy is quite ready for potty training yet. Though she did pee and poop in the big girl potty a few times... Below are some photos of her technique:

Dear Nolan - 6 Months

Dear Nolan,

You continue to challenge us every day. You are inch-worming and rolling all over the place. Anything that you are not suppose to have, you will find a way to get to. Your favorite toys are not actually toys, but more likely, someone else’s hair, any dog toy (especially if it’s covered in dog hair or slobber), or something that Lucy is currently playing with. You like to bang on things like they're a drum and you have no qualms about rolling right on top of Audrey.

You still won’t sleep through the night and you can have transitioned from crying to screeching really really loud.

You are following in your big sister's footsteps and are a short, fat kid, with a big head. At your 6-month check-up you were:
Height: 25" (3%)
Weight: 19# (73%)
Head Size: 17.75cm (93%)

You are such a smiley guy (when you're not screaming in anger). Sometimes you will go from raging mad to happy just by someone making a move towards you that makes you think you're about to be picked up. I love when you and Audrey sit up facing each other and "baby-talk" and laugh at each other. It usually goes really well until she tries to eat your face or you head butt her.

You are my little son and I love you so much. You make me feel loved by always wanting me to hold you. I keep reminding myself that you will only be little for so long, and before long you will want to be doing things yourself and won’t need me to be constantly holding and coddling you. So as much work as it can be, I’m enjoying every minute of it while it lasts.

I'll always love you anyway,

Your mama

Dear Audrey - 6 Months

Dear Audrey,

You continue to amaze us every day. You can sit up by yourself. You will sit and play with a toy for hours. You prefer the toys with little details that you like to pinch between your fingers. You've even started to crawl (backwards).

Your 6 month stats were just perfect (no seriously, the dr. said "perfect").
Height: 24.5" (7%)
Weight: 16.5# (59%)
Head Size: 17cm (79%)

You are the first kid asleep at night and the last one awake in the morning. You don’t cry when you wake up. We just go in to check on you and you will be just smiling and playing with your hands. Your face lights up the moment you see us. Many times you will stay awake while your brother and sister sleep (especially at nap time). I think it’s your little way to get 100% of mama and daddy’s attention.

I love to make you giggle. You like playing peek-a-boo and will even lift your shirt or dress up over your eyes and laugh. You are the sweetest little girl. You keep getting more beautiful each day. The easiest way to get you to smile is to smile at you. Happy faces make you smile :)

Everyone agrees, you are the sweetest little girl in the whole world.

I'll always love you anyway,

Your mama

Life as a SAHM...

Took Lucy to the dentist.
Met Kelly and the boys at the zoo.
Took a few selfies (will post later).
Drank lots of milk and apple juice.
Went potty on the big girl seat three times in one day.
Lots and lots of singing, dancing and mama snuggles!

So far the first two days have been pretty successful. I could get used to this.

At a loss...

Last night my friend delivered her baby boy. I don't know any of the details, but he didn't make it.

It was just two weeks ago that her little girl (who is Lucy's age) was crying because she wanted her baby brother to come out of her mama's belly immediately. From the stories my friend would tell me, you could feel the brother-sister bond already.

I'm just so sad today. This was not the way it was suppose to happen.

If you get a chance, say a little prayer for baby Jax Hudson and his mama, daddy and big sister. Their whole family could use a few extra thoughts and prayers. Little Reese will forever have a little brother looking out for her from above (though it pains me to think about how you explain something like that to a 2 year old)...

Sharing

Sharing can be tough when you're two. Especially when you have a little brother AND a little sister to share with.

Now that Audrey and Nolan are sitting up and mobile (Nolan), they are all trying to play with the same toys. Give them three toys, and they all want to play with the same one.

Lucy is doing a pretty good job sharing... as long as everyone follows her rules :)

Scoreboard

The psychologists will tell you that as parents of multiples, it is important that you don’t compare your children and their milestones. To that, I say “Scoreboard”.

Here are the standings:

First to be born: Audrey

First to lift their head: Audrey

First to rollover (back to front): Audrey

First to rollover (front to back): Nolan

First to sleep through the night: Audrey (three months later, we’re still waiting on Nolan to show signs)

First to poop 5 times in one day: Audrey

First to poop on your mama: Nolan

First to smile: Nolan

First to sit up: Audrey

First to spit up an entire feeding: Nolan

First to polish off a container of baby food: Nolan

First to reach 19 pounds: Nolan

First to move from point A to point B: Nolan. I won’t call it crawling. It’s more of an inchworm maneuver. He pushes his head into the floor and moves his legs forward and flops back to the ground, and then repeats. He’s actually pretty good at this move.

So far it’s 7-6 Nolan. Audrey’s going to have to bring out her A-game in the second half (of their first year)…

Daddy knows Lucy best

The scene: Lucy sitting on the couch watching "Elmo" while Kyle and I are getting ready for work in the bathroom.

"Ooo-yee-ahya-yi Haaaaah-wooooah-kah Yi-yi-yee Yoww-pow-yi-yo"

Kyle: oh no!
Me: what? What was that?
Kyle: that's Lucy's "I'm doing something that I'm not suppose to be doing, come look at me" noise...

Dear Nolan & Audrey - 5 months

Dear Nolan & Audrey,

Your mama is tired, exhausted, and barely keeping things together. I'll do better next month.

I'll always love you anyway,

Your mama

Gymnast

Preparation for the 2028 Summer Olympics has begun.  For the past few months, Lucy has been going to parent/tot gymnastics class once a week.  She has been getting very good at it and so much more confident in all the different moves they do.  If you ask her, she'll be happy to show you her forward rolls, headstands, jumps, or butterfly sits.

(Unless you have uneven bars in your house, she probably won't be able to show you the moves pictured above.)
