Dear Audrey - another laundry day

Dear Audrey,

I've written many posts in my notepad to document each of your milestones. Someday I'll transfer them somewhere.

Tonight, I am staying up, cleaning our house, and catching up on laundry. It is late, and I would rather be sleeping. However, you and your sister like to change outfits throughout the day, and then you change into PJs and everything goes into the "purple bucket" to be washed. There is at least a load of laundry for you kids each day. Your daddy and I do our best to keep up.

Each time I fold this striped dress I cringe. The dress is not my favorite. I bought it because it was under $3 on clearance. The first time you wore the dress, your daddy told you how beautiful you are. Since that day, you wear it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY that it is clean. Each morning you scour your dresser to see if it is clean, and if it is, you put it on. And each time you do, your daddy tells you how beautiful you are. The crazy thing is I never have any say in what you wear. You are the most independent little girl. Each morning I have to help Lucy and Nolan get dressed. Not you. You get dressed all on your own. You pick out your outfit, put away the dirty laundry and come downstairs ready for the day. I love that about you. You don't understand how much it helps, but someday you might understand. Your ability to be independent and self-sufficient is crucial to our family's ability to function.

Thank you Audrey. Thank you for figuring it out. Though I don't love this dress, I love how much you love this dress. So I will fold it, put it back in your dresser, and prepare for you to come downstairs wearing it tomorrow.... for the umpteenth million time.

I'll always love you.

Love,

Your mama
