Lullabies for Lucy

Everyone sings a different Lullaby.

Kyle sings Lucy the "Go Cubs Go" song or "Three Little Birds"

I seem to sing her my own version of "Hush Little Baby" or "Life is Beautiful"

Nana sings her a song that I don't know what it's called. All I know is that it goes "I love you all the T-I-M-E time". When Kyle was little she sang "You are my Sunshine".

Franny makes up tons of lullabies for Lucy. Some include her own lyrics and some have humming parts built in. I think one of her favorites to sing is "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"

Lucy loves music and loves when people sing to her. Unfortunately for her, neither of her parents were blessed with ANY musical ability. But we sing to her anyway, and she seems to enjoy it.

Dear Lucy - 1 month

Dear Lucy,

Tomorrow you will be one month old.

We've discovered that your hair curls after a bath. After it dries, your hair will straighten out, but a few curls will stick around and stay just above your ears.  You like the warmth of the bath water. Daddy had you all wrapped up in a towel after a bath. He felt something  warm, and then realized that you didn’t have a diaper on. Oops.

In addition to being the most adorable baby I have ever seen, you are the easiest baby as  well. When daddy or I will lay you down when you are sleeping; sometimes, when we go to  check you you'll be lying wide awake and completely content. Not crying or fussing, just a  look of “hey guys, how have you been?”

We’ve figured out that you only cry when you’re hungry. Otherwise, if you’re upset it’s mostly just moans and groans. You probably cry for less than 10 minutes a day. But you’ll “fuss” for an hour straight if you have gas pains. Usually your fussiness is easily solved by  someone just holding you and walking around the house. Many times there is a grandparent especially happy to hold you and walk with you.

You like to suck your thumb, but many times you miss and scratch your face or poke  yourself in the eye. Therefore, you’ve been wearing a lot of long sleeved outfits with built in  hand covers. Hopefully you stop hurting yourself before the weather gets too hot.
We gave you a pacifier, and you love it. But you’re very selective, there’s only a certain one that you’ll take.

You love tummy time. You have a very strong neck. I call it your little turtle neck, as you like to lift your head and look around. Daddy likes to play with you on your play mat. You like the sound that the chirping bird makes.

When you sleep on a bed you like to spread out. Every limb will be sprawled out in a different direction. However, when you sleep while we’re holding you, you like to bear hug our arm or chest. We’ve nicknamed you our little koala bear, since that’s what you look like.

The last couple days you've been growing like crazy. You no longer fit in the outfit that we  brought you home in. I love getting to spend everyday with you. I love watching you grow.

I'll always love you anyway,

Your mama

Big Brother, Reggie

I walked to school (uphill, both ways). My friends used to laugh at me, because if there was a dog walking towards us (even if it was leashed, with it's owner, and smaller than a loaf of bread), I'd cross the street to avoid having to walk anywhere near the dog. Yes, I did this even as a sophomore in High School. I was afraid of dogs. I never understood how anyone could "love" a dog.

Well, that all changed, once this guy came into my life:
Reggie is still a puppy, he'll turn 2 in July. We were a little worried about how Reggie would do once Lucy got here. Would he be jealous? Too much energy? Would we have to give Lucy back?

When I went into labor, my parents picked up Reggie and Savannah and brought the pups to their house for two or three days. In fact, my mom sent me a photo of their car ride with the dogs:

Someone at my parents house must have given Reggie a pep-talk. Because, he is so timid and gentle around Lucy. There's a totally different side of him that I had never seen before. He likes to smell her feet and share his toys with her. His favorite is to drop a toy on her while she's on her playmat. I think that in a few years, they're going to be the best of friends.

Somedays I feel guilty, a lot of my "Reggie-time" has become "Lucy-time", but somehow he seems to let me know that he understands.

I downloaded an app that lets me post directly from my phone.

Hopefully it'll make it easier to post things like this:

Wordless Wednesdays

Let's pretend that above this post it says "Wednesday May 23, 2012"
Each Wednesday I'll try to post a picture or two (or three or twelve). No blogging, just some good ole pictures from the week. Warning, there will most likely be one main subject for all of the photos. :)
